After winning many accolades for his brilliant performance in Aayirathil Oruvan, actor Parthiban is back with Vithagan (also spelt Vitthagan) which narrates the story of a smart cop who uses his brains to trap criminals and wrongdoers. The film is produced by Manickam Narayanan under Seventh Channel Entertainment. Apart from playing the lead role Parthiban has also penned the story and directed it.

The film, in which Parthiban appears in two get-ups, was in the making for more than two years.
Vithagan comes with the caption 'With the gun'! Here we bring you an exclusive review...
Rowdhiran (Parthiban) is an upright, honest IPS officer who believes that for a better society criminals have to be encountered. But unlike his counterparts he handles (even kills) the criminals in a different way. In his world there are no laws, no rules; it's all about the final verdict (which he decides). Also he makes sure that his name is never brought into these killings. But how long can he escape from his colleagues where most of them work for the criminals and not the law!
At a crucial situation Rowdhiran gets caught! In a flashback it is revealed that Rowdhiran is not an orphan but in order to save his family he has stayed away from them for years. Fast forward to present time; Rowdhiran is sent to prison and when he is released after a few months he decides to take a different path to eradicate the criminals; chief among them Badri (Milind Soman). There are many twists, turns and flashbacks from this point onwards till the interesting climax!
There is no doubt that Parthiban is one of the most talented actors in Kollywood. After powerful performance in Aayirathil Oruvan, we expect him to take up more challenging roles rather than the regular run-of-the-mill kind. The actor looks different in Vithagan and his witty one liners are interesting but unfortunately it last only for a few minutes. The youthful get-up in the second half doesn't choose him much; his look and body language reminds us of Suriya (in Kaakha Kaakha), Rajni and Vijay. However all these factors are sidelined by the racy screenplay (penned by Parthiban). There is no doubt that he is a true multi tasker.
Poorna as Mercy who plays Rowdhiran's love interest does not have much to do. But it the actress looks beautiful (reminds us of Asin) on screen. Music composed by Joshua Sridhar is okay but the club song in the second half is an unwanted intrusion. The basic plot of the film lacks logic and the unwanted twists in between spoil the continuity. There are many villains in this flick (some come from nowhere and get killed) but sadly all of them including the handsome Milind Soman (director Gautham Menon has dubbed for him in this flick) are wasted. Parthibans's racy screenplay, camera work by Prabhu and Anthony's sleek editing make the movie watchable.
